Prince Poppycock

Poppycock Preforming 'Bohemian Rhapsody' top 24

Prince Poppycock's Top 4 Preformance
John Quale
Prince Poppycock. An amazing act from America's Got Talent, Season 5. He is an amazing act, and I think he should've won. But, as long as he keeps preforming and making music, I'll be happy. :)
I remember when I first saw Poppycock on America's got talent. It was the New York auditions, and then it showed John Quale, a 32 year-old store clerk. I haven't seen many great acts in the show yet... so I was still waiting. But, once Quale had hit the stage...I was blown away! His whole preformance...from his singing, to his amazing look, I thought in my mind that he'd win! And I was almost right.
Poppycock had come in 4th place in the show, following 'Fighting Gravity', 'Jackie Evancho', and winner 'Michael Grimm'.
What was weird though was people have been saying the contest was 'rigged'. And honestly, I somewhat believe that. Not just because I am a HUGE Poppycock fan, but because on every online poll I saw for who the winner should be, Poppycock was mostly the fan favourite, while Grimm was usually fourth? I honestly don't know. It seems strange...but all of Poppycock's Poppies are still hoping he continues with his character!

John Quale:

John Quale has been singing since he could speak. At 11, he had his first professional gig at the Kennedy Center, with the Washington Opera children’s choir. He continued his studies at competitive Interlochen Arts Camp, performing and touring with musicals and choirs through his high school and college years.

Inspired by his love for a wide range of musical styles and artists like David Bowie, Depeche Mode, opera, madrigals, Gregorian chant, The Smiths, and Gilbert and Sullivan, John began to write and record his own music while still a teen. In college, he was lead singer and songwriter for Chicago synth pop band Endora; later, after moving to Los Angeles, he wrote, produced, and released his solo debut album, Worldview, which is now available on iTunes.

While in LA, John won critical acclaim for his role in smash musical “The Beastly Bombing,” a winner of the LA Weekly Theater Award for Best Musical that enjoyed two short off-Broadway runs in NYC. He also wrote a civil rights anthem called “Rise Up and Shout” for a documentary of the same name about emerging gay Los Angeles artists which recently premiered on the Sundance Channel.

In 2006 John created the character of Prince Poppycock: a roguish operatic dandy with a persona and repertoire that drew on all John’s varied influences as a performer and a musician. Described by style maven and pop culture journalist Rose Apodaca as “a rock star in Rococo France,” Poppycock’s look and sound combined elements of glam rock, light opera, synth pop, and Western art music in a way that was fresh; sometimes startling; and always entertaining, doing each of those traditions justice yet transcending the past – rather than simply updating it – to become something truly original.

The glittering reign of Prince Poppycock commenced when John was invited to perform the Figaro aria, ‘Largo al Factotum,’ at a friend’s club. There was one stipulation: he must wear a wig. John appeared in a towering powdered confection to highlight how the song is about being a fabulous hairdresser, and Poppycock’s royal presence was instantly in demand. Witty and glamorous, with a powerful trained voice, Prince Poppycock has opened for bands like the Dresden Dolls and The Sounds; sung at extravagant special events like New York’s Dances of Vice; and opened for performance art legend Ann Magnuson at downtown LA’s prestigious Redcat Theater. He is currently a contestant on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”

John continues to work actively on both Prince Poppycock as well as his solo projects as a singer and songwriter. He is presently partnering with songwriter and keyboardist Kristian Hoffman (of The Mumps and Klaus Nomi note) on the Poppycock debut album.

ITUNES: Would I Reccomend It?

Ok. Itunes. Kind of a big deal when you want to find out what is on the charts. However, some of the music is not good. Sometimes, it's just completely brutal and horrible to listen to. Here are my opinions on the songs on Itune's top 10 songs (Canada).

1. Rihanna - Only Girl (In The World): I've personally never been a fan of Rihanna, but this song isn't her worse. It shows a stronger side of her voice, and not so 'nasally' as I've noticed before. It's a good song to play at clubs and parties. My rating: 4/10

2. Usher -  DJ Got Us Fallin' In Love (ft. Pitbull): Again, not a fan of Usher, but the song isn't horrible. I do prefer his song 'OMG' a bit better, but whatever. It's a pretty good song to play at parties, clubs, etc. My rating: 3/10

3. Katy Perry - Teenage Dream: Ok. I'll admit it. I bought Katy Perry's first cd 'One Of The Boys' because of the fun, catchy songs. Her new album, 'Teenage Dream' isn't as good as I was expecting, however 'Teenage Dream' is one of the better songs. The video is a fun, and a has a 'let loose' feel to it. Not too bad. My rating: 6/10

4. Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are: YES! A GOOD SONG! Haha. I've been a Bruno Mars fan since I've heard his EP: 'It's Better If You Don't Understand.' How can you not fall in love with his voice? This song isn't my favourite by him, but I still love it, and the video along with it is really creative and cute. ♥ My rating: 9/10

5. Taio Cruz - Dynamite: Um...well, isn't this a catchy tune? ;) I've heard this song soo much, I'm kinda getting bored of it. First off, it's not my type of music, and second...the video isn't really great. It's a good song to dance to, but not the best. My rating: 4/10

6. Eminem: Love The Way You Lie (ft. Rihanna): NOOOO! Don't make me. Haha, kidding. I am not an Eminem fan (well, mostly because I'm not a rap fan), but this song is good for rap. It actually has a meaning to it, which is great. And I really like Rihanna's part in the song. The only thing is...my brother has played this song WAY TOO MUCH that I might punch someone if I hear it again... ;) My rating: 6.5/10

7. Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me (ft. David Guetta): I actually like Flo Rida's music. His songs have a fun, hip hop beat, which I like. It's a great party song, and it's fun to dance to. My rating: 7.7/10

8. Enrique Iglesias - I Like It (ft. Pitbull): Baby, I like it! Haha. I'm always looking for music with a fun beat, and this is it. I've checked out Enrique's new cd 'Euphoria', and the other tracks are epic as well. ;) My rating: 8/10

9. Far East Movement - Like A G6 (ft. Cataracs & Dev): Okay, I have this song on my ipod, but why not? Any song that mentions getting 'Slizzered' must be good right? ;) But seriously, it's a fun song, and great to dance to. It might get boring after awhile, but as always, my opinion. My rating: 6.9/10

10. Nelly - Just A Dream: I'm not too familliar with this tune, but from what I've heard of it, it's pretty good. It's a more layed-back song, which is great, and Nelly's voice is quite amazing as well. I might have to listen to this song a bit more to get a better feel for it. My rating: 7/10

So overall, my favourite track in the ITUNES top 10 is...
Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are

**Again, these are just MY opinions. Please don't freak out if I don't like a song that you love. I am mostly into alternative rock/pop music anyways.

Josiah Leming

◘◘◘
Josiah Leming. Know him? Maybe. Maybe not. He was a former contestant of American Idol, 2007. He didn't make the top 12, but I was blown away when I heard his first cd 'Come On Kid' on itunes.
I remember Josiah on American Idol. He sang Mika's Grace Kelly, and I loved it. Also, I think he is one of the best artists on American Idol, in my opinion. His voice is beautiful, and his lyrics are amazing. Check out his debut cd 'Come On Kid' on itunes now!
